Merry Moomas

Hope you're all having a wonderful Christmas/Hannuka/Insert Festival here holiday. I am with my mum in the countryside, and as you can see above had a lovely pre-Christmas dinner stroll admiring the beautiful livestock. I think we were the most interesting thing they'd seen all day.

I haven't done much drawing but I have been up to my ears in eating, drinking, sewing and sleeping. I plan to correct that this evening and maybe whack out a couple of portrait drawings. The sedentary nature of Christmas activities (ie watching TV) is surely in my favour.

Love joy and warmth to all.

Boff!

That was always the best old school Batman punch noise. That and 'Biff!'. People don't make that noise when they punch people anymore.

Okay so it was more like an hour and a half... my aim was to get it accurate yet push the poses a little. My reference was this place, which I discovered thanks to Mel Milton who I follow. He's a bit talented, I love looking at his drawings. His sketches from that series are far more dynamic than mine.

Also, look how dependent I am on Photoshop! Look what happens below when I don't use it?? I need to do more life drawing with real materials, and just more drawing in general. I'll see if I can cram some in my lunchbreak tomorrow.

Wacom Tablet Are Go

Right, time to get that fetid piece of pencilwork off the topspot. Time for some decent sketching, see you in an hour.

My pencilcase threw up

I tried to mop it up but this was still left on the paper:

It started out as an ok sketch that I did from a More! magazine (Ha! Yeah I know, but it was lying around and needed inspiration (and fab celebrity goss... ) and with my beautiful vibrant daler rowney colouring pencils barely used I figured I could add a bit of pizzaz to it. However I just ended up getting myself in a hole because I didn't leave any space for hilights and to be honest I am not at all practised with coloured pencils. So it ended up a bit of an experiment and a learning curve.

However, I told my boyfriend off the other day because he started a drawing in his new sketchbook and then ripped it out because he didn't like it and didn't want people to see it. I pointed out it's a sketchbook not a portfolio, it's supposed to show progression not just your best work. He disagreed but anyway, I can't be a hypocrite now can I?
So here is crazy green-brown girl, in all her awkwardly posed, badly coloured, high waisted hotpants glory.

I actually quite like the pants.

The Novelty of a Scanner

I'm at my mum's house, and oh look, a scanner! That's probably a divine sign I should do some drawing, and not use my lack of laptop and wacom tablet as an excuse. Doesn't look like anyone too special is on the Graham Norton show anyway. Off I go then.

Oh, there you are Scarlett!

For most of the time I was drawing this, you looked like Nicole Kidman...

...oh no wait, you still kind of do. Ah bollocks. Anyway, it's really past the time I could even tell my arse from my elbow. G'night.

Sketch Mania to follow (I hope)

I've set up this blog because I want to improve my drawing, yet after working at the studio all day rarely find the drive to draw personal stuff. I'm hoping that this blog will change that. I have a deviantArt account and a website, however they always feel like more of an official gallery. I'd like somewhere I can document all my drawings, and hopefully get some helpful feedback.

Just to get the ball rolling, here's a barn owl I started painting a while back from a photo reference. I want to start getting a little more creative with my form, rather than just copying things exactly. Let's see if I can rustle you up something more flavoursome tonight.
